Whyalla City Council YAC member wins Regional Service Award

Whyalla teenager, Emily Rawlings has been recognised for her community service, being awarded the SANTOS Regional Service Award at the 2018 Channel 9 Young Achiever Awards.

Ms Rawlings, 19, who is a member of the Whyalla City Council Youth Advisory Committee, received the award at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide on Friday evening. She was one of 12 category winners announced.

Mayor Lyn Breuer congratulated Emily on her award, saying that she is an inspirational young woman.

“She contributes so much to the Whyalla community. I’m really happy that she’s been recognised with such a prestigious award,” said Mayor Breuer.

Emily was recognised for her involvement in community radio, for organising community clean-ups and helping to develop a program to support young musicians to perform in a live environment.


Emily has previously won the Spirit of Whyalla Graeme Jose’ Award and the Australian Defence Forces Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award.

A talented musician, Emily had the honour of singing the national anthem, at the award dinner.
