Schedule of Council office closures over the holidays

City of Whyalla offices and facilities will be closed for set times over Christmas and New Year while some residents’ bin collections will be affected by the public holidays.

Residents that normally get their bins collected on Tuesday (Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) will have them picked up the following day on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 and Wednesday, January 2, 2019. This affects people in the G and B zones (see map below).

At its October general meeting, elected members voted for a set schedule of closures for Council offices and services.

 

CHRISTMAS-NEW YEAR CLOSURES

COUNCIL OFFICES: The Council Civic Building located at Darling Terrace, Whyalla, be closed to the public from 3pm on Monday 24 December 2018 and reopen with normal operating hours on Wednesday 2 January 2019.

LIBRARY: The Whyalla Library will be closed from 5pm on Monday 24 December 2018 and reopen Thursday 27 December 2018 with opening hours for the period of Thursday 27 December and Friday 28 December 2018 from 10am to 5pm.  The Whyalla Library will close during the New Year period from Friday 28 December 2018 at 5pm and reopen for normal business on Wednesday 2 January 2019.  (Members will be able to return books via a chute on the days the library is closed).

CHILD CARE: The Child Care Centre will be closed to the public from Friday 21 December 2018 at 5.45pm and reopen on Monday 7 January 2019 at 7.45am.

VISITOR CENTRE: The Visitor Centre /Maritime Museum will be closed to the public on Christmas Day and reopen for normal business on Wednesday 26 December 2018.

DUMP: The Whyalla Waste and Resource Recovery Centre will be closed from 4.30pm Monday 24 December and reopen on Thursday 27 December 2018 at 10am with normal operating hours; and over the New Year period from 4.30pm on Monday 31 December 2018 and reopen for normal business on Wednesday 2 January 2019.

ANIMAL MANAGEMENT CENTRE: Closed on public holidays. Open for dog collection between 3-4pm on December 27, 28 and 29.  Animal Management Officer will be on call all days including Christmas and New Year's Day for contained lost/stray dog pick ups ONLY. Ring 8640 3444

ENGINEERING, INFRASTRUCTURE, AIRPORT, CEMETERY AND INSPECTORIAL SERVICES: There will be adequate emergency staff for all these departments for the Christmas and New Year period. Call 8640 3444.

 

KERBSIDE COLLECTION

BIN COLLECTION: Areas G and B will have their bins picked up on Wednesday (December 26 and January 2) instead of the normal Tuesday.
